Kevin is a co-founder of AuditFile, where he works closely with Steven Bong to execute the Company’s vision for designing a simple-to-use, sophisticated audit automation solution that empowers firms to prepare for the future of auditing. AuditFile received early recognition for its break-through design as an Innovation Award finalist in 2015, and a winner for AuditFile Pro Plus in 2017.
Kevin draws on his dual degree in accounting and computer science from UCLA, as well as his work at Deloitte and Luminous Capital, to blend design with function. However, he feels he draws his inspiration from accounting professionals: “My favorite part is talking to professionals who are passionate about what they do and translating their ideas, suggestions and even concerns into new features. We were fortunate to launch our solution at a time when audit is ready for transformational change, and are excited to be a part of that.”
“Our mission in creating AuditFile was your classic story of ‘there has to be a better way.’ Seeing a need and doing something about it is both empowering and rewarding, and that’s been a guiding principle in my professional and my personal life.”
In high school, Kevin had become involved with and has since been a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He also continues to help his fellow entrepreneurs and current students turn their passions into careers through the UCLA Alumni Association and UCLA Ventures.
Favorite influencer(s) (authors, bloggers, mentors, speakers, etc.):
“A few of my favorite influencers for whom I have a great deal of respect are Rod Drury, CEO of Xero, and Tim Draper, founding partner of Draper Associates and DFJ, not just because of what they’ve accomplished, but also because of their openness and willingness to guide young entrepreneurs like Steven and myself. I also admire Jason Blumer and regularly follow his blog and podcasts on thriveal.com because he started a movement that has prompted practitioners to think differently – to be more entrepreneurial in how they run their practices. And, lastly, I would have to include my father, Gary Bong, as the strongest influence. He’s the real inspiration for AuditFile – taking his frustration with the tools available and turning it into a vision for re-imagining audit.”
