The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) has named Shay Blanchette, CPA, MBA, as the winner of its Outstanding Educator of the Year award for 2018. Blanchette, a Foxboro resident, is a senior lecturer and MSA faculty director at Babson College.
Blanchette was chosen for going above and beyond in the classroom, contributing to the accounting profession, and playing a major role in the MSCPA’s outreach to academia.
“The accounting industry is growing and relying on professors like Shay to cultivate the next generations of CPAs and ready them for the ever-changing workplace,” said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. “Shay has been an active member of the Society and the profession for many years and we’re delighted to honor her for her contributions both inside and outside of the classroom.”
Blanchette will be honored with the Outstanding Educator of the Year award at the MSCPA “Believers and Achievers” reception on May 23 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy.
The winner of the award must be a full-time accounting educator at a college or university who has a proven record of excellence in classroom teaching, inspiring students, and educational innovation.
Blanchette earned a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting and an MBA from Babson College. She returned to campus to become a full-time faculty member in 2011. Prior to joining Babson, she was an Assurance Partner with the Boston PwC Private Company Services Practice. She accumulated more than twenty years of experience at PwC, serving a wide range of companies in the retail, manufacturing and professional services industries.
Blanchette is a leader on campus, playing a major role in course curriculum design and working closely with the campus career centers and accounting firms. She integrates her work experience into her teachings, providing students with a peek into the accounting industry. In 2015, she was named Babson’s Faculty Advisor of the Year for her involvement with the Babson Accounting Club and in 2018 was named the Faculty Mentor of the Year for her commitment to academic and career coaching for her students. Blanchette is the faculty member on the Babson College Audit Committee and was most recently named to the Mass. Society of CPAs Board of Directors.
Blanchette is an active member of the MSCPA’s Academic and Career Development Committee and has coordinated the Society’s “Is Accounting for Me?” conference for high school students at Babson College for several years. She was also a recipient of the MSCPA/AICPA’s “Women to Watch Award – Experienced Leaders” in 2014.
