Florida Woman Accused of Stealing Coworker Identities to Go Shopping

A Florida woman is accused of stealing her coworkers’ identities and then using them to shop and pay her bills, police said.

Boca Raton police arrested Elexes Thaddies, 24, on Friday. Officers suspect Thaddies used fraudulent accounts to charge about $20,000.

Police started investigating Thaddies in September when someone came forward and said a Nordstrom account in her name had been opened.

The woman’s name was listed as the primary account holder, but Thaddies was listed as an authorized user. According to an arrest report, Thaddies used the woman’s account to make a $1,160 purchase at Nordstrom in Palm Beach Gardens.

As officers investigated, they were told by Coral Springs and Boynton Beach police that they too were looking into Thaddies’ activities.

Police soon discovered Thaddies had stolen 20 identities to purchase items at Nordstrom and to pay her bills, according to the arrest report.

Most victims had something in common: they were employees at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach. Police said some of the victims said they knew Thaddies because she also worked at the hospital.

According to the arrest report, Thaddies would provide a fake driver’s license to open the accounts. The license she provided was a Florida ID that had popular actress Keira Knightly’s photo on it, police said.

Police were able to match up information about the phone number, address and IP address used to open the accounts and all matched Thaddies.

They also think she might have an accomplice, but that woman has not been arrested, records show.

Thaddies is charged with grand theft, using the ID of another without consent, fraudulent use of a credit card, and organized fraud. She was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Saturday.
