• Passing the CPA exam after a 10 year break from testing
• Receiving my Master’s in Professional Accounting in order to be eligible for the CPA license after my break
• Working in nonprofit, governmental, and public accounting in both tax and auditing
• Promoting from Senior Accountant to Controller to Director of Finance at the Pueblo City-County Library District within 14 months
• Attending the 2019 AICPA Leadership Academy
• Serving on committees and councils for the AICPA and the Colorado Society of CPAs (COCPA)
• 2019 CPAs Make a Difference Heroine Award from the COCPA
• 2019 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award from the Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce
• 2021 Outstanding Woman Award from the Pueblo Library Foundation
• 2021 Women to Watch Emerging Leader Award from the COCPA

What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?

At the local level, I have volunteered as the treasurer for a number of Pueblo nonprofits and am currently serving as President for the Junior League of Pueblo. At the state level, I am a mentor for the COCPA’s Educational Foundation Scholar Mentoring Program and am the Chair for the COCPA Young Professionals Council.  At the national level, I am the Vice-Chair for the AICPA Young Member Leadership Committee and have been an applicant reviewer for the AICPA Foundation Scholarship for Future CPAs.  With my volunteer work at the state and national level, I strive to promote and educate young professionals on the CPA profession and career possibilities, helping them build networks to call upon as they grow in their career. 

What do you like best about the accounting profession?

That you can make a difference in the industry by volunteering for different accounting organizations, the AICPA, and your state society.  There are a vast amount of options out there for a CPA and different areas of accounting, the learning never stops. But at the end of the day, we all speak the same financial language and can relate and help each other move the profession forward.
