The tax season may be over now, with most Americans having filed their returns before last week's April 15 deadline, but federal and state income taxes are just one part of the myriad of taxes that people pay.

With the potential of a national sales tax coming, the prospect of trying to comply with many states and local sales tax regulations could be a nightmare for small companies who sell things over the internet. Fortunately, small online businesses and ecommerce sellers now have access to a free sales tax reporting system from Avalara.

In a move that will let accounting and tax professionals in Maryland have faster access to real-time sales and use tax information, cloud-based tax automation vendor Avalara has formed a strategic alliance with the Maryland Association of CPAs, a professional membership-based organization comprised of over 9,000 CPAs.

The Illinois CPA Society and sales tax automation provider Avalara, Inc. have formed a strategic alliance that gives the state's professional association of Certified Public Accountants no-cost access to up-to-date sales and use tax (SUT) and valued added tax (VAT) tools, and related resources to better assist their clients and/or their employers in this rapidly changing regulatory environment.
