What’s the one piece of technology that MOST helps you get through
your normal workday?
“Although my days are already jam-packed with work, I wouldn’t get
as much accomplished if it wasn’t for Instant Messaging (IM) within my
organization. Many times, one has the choice to write an e-mail or place a phone
call to an associate. Both usually take up much more time than IM. IM collaboration
is quicker than e-mail and easier than telephone. Many think that IM is one
of those gadgets that actually takes away from our busy schedule. For me, it
allows quicker and easier communication. It helps me get the most out of my
day.”
What will be the biggest change over the next five years in the ways
tax and accounting firms operate?
“Visibility. Huge volumes of data will be pooled and available for you
to analyze, helping you make decisions. For example, some software now pools
tax prep data nationwide and then compares the returns that you’ve prepared
against the pool to check for exceptions. You’ll see the red flags before
the IRS does. This pooling of data and the visibility it provides will grow
well past tax prep. All types of data can be pooled: fees charged for services,
salary data, expenses, revenues, etc. Visibility into this information is a
great value to all accountants and their clients.”
