Former SunTrust vice president sentenced for embezzlement

A former SunTrust Bank Vice President was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for embezzlement and other related crimes Wednesday.

A former SunTrust Bank Vice President was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for embezzlement and other related crimes Wednesday.

Sharon Williams, 51, was the vice president the banks’ real estate construction administration between October 2004 and October 2011 and stole more than $195,000 from several accounts at the bank, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In September, Williams’ pleaded guilty to charges of theft, embezzlement or misapplication by a bank officer. She was ordered to pay $98,612 in restitution to the bank and will serve 11 months home confinement and 1 year of supervised release following her prison sentence.

Williams was caught after a SunTrust employee noticed that $5,615 debit from a general ledger account was deposited into one of Williams’ personal accounts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
