AICPA to host summit on leadership strategies for women accounting professionals

Making partner or winning a seat on a corporate board can be a capstone to a successful career, yet too few women in accounting or finance attain these goals.

NEW YORK – Making partner or winning a seat on a corporate board can be a capstone to a successful career, yet too few women in accounting or finance attain these goals. One way to change that imbalance: learn from women who have already made it at the AICPA Women’s Global Leadership Summit.

The event, which will be held Oct. 24-25 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C., offers an array of skill-building sessions, dynamic keynotes and networking opportunities for female CPAs and financial professionals who want to put their careers on the fast track. Most sessions are led by women who have advanced to leadership positions within their professions.

“One of the most essential elements in leadership development is access to new ideas and learning opportunities combined with strong role models,” said Mary L. Bennett, founder of MLBennett Consulting LLC and chair of the AICPA Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee. “This conference gives participants both.”

Keynoters include BBC World News anchor Katty Kay, a co-author of Womenomics, and noted futurist Edie Weiner. Breakout sessions feature best practices on negotiating skills, risk management, effective communication, board leadership and other topics. More details are available in the conference agenda.

The event is co-sponsored by the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants and CPA Canada. A live webcast option will be available for those who can’t attend in person.
