Checking Out the iProp Tablet Stand

I must get about a gazillion pitches each year from public relations people about some terrific piece of hardware or software they want me to try. And mostly, I just say no. I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually accepted a product to try.

It’s not that I dislike new things. That, after all, is the point of this blog. It is that there seems to be an unwritten rule that if you take a product to try, you have to write about it. And that gives me a quandary, because so many of the things I am sent are completely inappropriate for accounting and tax professionals.

Or they are simply awful, and I can’t think of a single nice thing to say about them.

But when the folks at DOCKEM asked me to try out their new tablet stand, the iProp, I cautiously accepted. July was a travel and meeting month for me, with a lot of days out of the office and on the road, where I prefer to use a tablet rather than lug a laptop around.

The bottom line is this: for about $25 on Amazon, this is worth buying if you spend time on the road with a tablet.

The device is aimed at the consumer market, which makes it a strange sell for professionals. But note that many professionals prefer to take a tablet on a road rather than a notebook – and far preferable to using the security-compromised computer in the hotel “Business Center.”

I had trouble using it as advertised, with my legs bent up, because of my titanium hip. On the other hand, my lady just loved it. Perfect angles for sitting in bed and checking web sites or answering email, and a little storage pouch for connectors and cables.

In the end, I have to give the product a thumbs up for both utility and value, and recommend it to those in the accounting/tax field with a need to travel and a tablet for the road.
