Small Business Hiring Boosts Jobs Report Numbers to Highest of 2013

The latest private monthly jobs report from ADP shows that U.S. businesses added more than 200,000 jobs in the month of November.
The National Employment Report, which is developed by payroll and human resource solutions provider Automatic Data Processing, shows a net increase of 215,000 private, non-farm jobs during the last month, the highest of any month in 2013. It was, “the strongest month for job growth in 2013. It’s an encouraging sign as we head toward the new year,” said Carlos Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of ADP.
The ADP National Employment Report is a monthly measure of the change in total U.S. non-farm private employment derived from actual, anonymous payroll data of client companies served by ADP. The report, which measures nearly 24 million U.S. workers, is produced by the ADP Research Institute, a specialized group within the company that provides insights around employment trends and workforce strategy, in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics, Inc.
Most of the gains were seen in small businesses, which added 102,000 new jobs during the period, while medium-sized businesses added 48,000 and large businesses added 5,000. By sector, service-based entities added the most, at 176,000, while manufacturing and construction companies saw combined gains of about 40,000 jobs.
The November numbers were higher than the 181,000 job average of the last six months.
