Grant Thornton Names New Leader of Not-for-Profit Practice
Grant Thornton LLP recently announced the appointment of Robert Butler Jr., CPA as Tax Services leader of its Not-for-Profit practice. Butler is a managing director in the Boston office and will work with the firm’s higher education and not-for-profit clients. He has extensive non-profit experience and previously served as controller of Brandeis University. Butler has also led the organization tax practice at KPMG LLP and worked for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. Butler received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Merrimack College and a master’s degree in taxation from Northeastern University.

Gettry Marcus CPA, P.C. recently promoted Pamela L. Burman to Principal in the firm’s Accounting and Auditing Group and Gabe Shurek to Director in the firm’s Business Valuation & Litigation Services Group. Burman brings more than 30 years of experience in accounting, tax and financial services to the firm. She specializes in regional and national middle market privately-held companies and not-for-profit organizations in various industries, such as construction, manufacturing and real estate.
Shurek has more than 15 years of experience in forensic accounting and fraud detection and has managed engagements in various types of federal and state commercial matters, including stakeholder disputes, marital dissolutions and contract disputes. Shurek has also represented bankruptcy Trustees, debtors and creditors' committees in solvency & preference analysis and investigations for fraudulent transfers.
Howard, Wershbale & Co. Announces New Name and Principal
Howard, Wershbale & Co. recently announced the transition of its company name to HW&Co, signifying several internal and external advancements, such as a merger, staff promotions, additional employees, a new practice and a new office.
The firm also announced the promotion of John P. Krizansky, CPA, to Principal in the firm. Krizansky currently serves as auditor, accountant and business advisor for nonprofit organizations, family-owned businesses, privately held companies and entrepreneurs. His expertise includes HUD financed projects, manufacturers, retailers, long-term care organizations, hospitals and health systems, and Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement. Krizansky also provides due diligence services for acquisitions of privately held companies.
