Accounting, tax and payroll software developer Thomson Reuters has announced that registration is open for its third annual Payroll Summits, which will offer two days of first-hand insight to help accounting firms capitalize on new opportunities in the rapidly evolving payroll space.

Limited to 50 seats per city, the Payroll Summits focus on technology and workflow best practices, sales and marketing techniques, and strategic planning. Every firm will leave the summit with a customized action plan detailing how to start or grow their specific payroll offering according to Jim Paille, director, operations, myPay Solutions at Thomson Reuters.

“Payroll is one of the most lucrative, fast-growing spaces in the profession today, thanks largely to new technology options and a new regulatory environment that’s driving increased demand for payroll services,” he said. “It’s a big opportunity for firms that are prepared to capitalize.”

The 2014 Payroll Summit dates and locations are:

May 7-8, Seattle, WA, Hyatt at Olive 8

May 21-22, Nashville, TN, Renaissance Nashville Hotel

The two-day forums are designed for firms that are considering offering in-house payroll processing services or seeking to grow their existing payroll business. The summits will help attendees examine where they are with payroll today and develop concrete plans to build and grow their payroll business. They will be hosted by a team of nationally recognized payroll experts, including:

R. Sean Manning, CPA, Manning & Company, P.C., Littleton, CO: Sean Manning is the owner of Manning & Company, P.C., which was named Accounting Firm of the Year in 2011 by the Professional Association of Small Business Accountants (PASBA). Sean is also majority partner of Payroll Vault, a nationally recognized independent payroll service company that he built from the ground up as an outgrowth of his accounting firm. He is also the
co-author of the 2011 book “Six Steps to Small Business Success.”

Matt Towers, Senior Sales and Training Consultant, Thomson Reuters: Matt has worked with thousands of firms nationwide, using his knowledge of the entire CS Professional Suite to demonstrate how to use technology to improve firm productivity and profitability. He has experience as lead consultant for the Accounting CS Payroll platform and has conducted training on payroll processes and workflow.

Jim Paille, CPP, Director, Operations, myPay Solutions, Thomson Reuters: Jim brings in-depth knowledge of payroll operations and regulation. He has been an executive manager in the payroll service industry for over 30 years, specializing in managing multi-location offices. Jim is a member of the APA's Board of Directors and National Speakers Bureau and he also chairs the CPP Certification Review Panel.

“Sean Manning’s first-hand experience building a payroll services business has helped a lot of firms start and grow their payroll offerings, and I’m looking forward to discussing payroll operations and regulation,” Paille said. “The intimate, collaborative environment is going to create a really rich experience and a great deal of valuable take-away knowledge for the firms that attend.”

The Summit format offers a small-group environment with a high level of individualized instruction. Paille said this format has been extremely popular in the past.

“Our users rely on us to be more than a software provider,” he said. “They’ve come to expect thought leadership content that helps them improve their businesses and better serve their clients, and I think this year’s Payroll Summits will do just that.”
