AICPA Honors Accounting Educators
The The American Institute of CPAs recently announced the recipients of its 2014 Effective Learning Strategies Awards. The annual awards recognize educators who demonstrate innovative teaching practices in one of three educational levels: in the first sequence of accounting, junior- and senior-level accounting courses and at the graduate level. The winners are:
- Bea Sanders/AICPA Innovation in Teaching Award in the first sequence of accounting: Wendy Tietz PhD, CPA, CGMA, Associate Professor of Accounting at Kent State University
- George Krull/Grant Thornton Teaching Innovation Award in junior- and senior-level accounting courses: Ashley Stark and Scott Hanson, CPA, Assistant Professors of Accounting at Dickinson State University
- Mark Chain/FSA Teaching Innovation Award in graduate-level accounting teaching practices: Tina M. Loraas, PhD, Taylor Associate Professor in the School of Accountancy at Auburn University and Dr. DeWayne Searcy, CPA, CG Mills Faculty Fellow and Director of the School of Accountancy at Auburn University
The following educators were recognized with honorable mentions:
- Bea Sanders/AICPA Innovation in Teaching Award: Poh-Sun Seow and Suay-Peng Wong, Singapore Management University
- George Krull/Grant Thornton Teaching Innovation Award: David Stout, Youngstown State University
- Mark Chain/FSA Teaching Innovation Award: Timothy D. West, Lisa L. Roth and Yanelly Villegas, Northern Illinois University; and David Stout, Youngstown State University
Crowe Horwath International Announces New Co-chairmen
Crowe Horwath International recently announced two new co-chairmen: Charles Allen, chief executive officer of Crowe Horwath LLP and Yang Jiantao, principal partner of Ruihua Certified Public Accountants. Allen has served as the CEO of Crowe Horwath LLP since 2007 and currently serves on the Crowe Horwath International board of directors. Yang is also a current board member of Crowe Horwath International.
Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Names New Inductee
David Reznick, founding partner of Reznick Group was recently inducted into the Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame. Reznick formed Reznick, Fedder & Silverman, which would eventually become CohnReznick. He graduated from the University of Maryland and is a speaker, philanthropist and active in his community, where he has become well known for his affordable housing work. Reznick has been honored by Washington DC’s Business Hall of Fame, the Catholic Charities Progress of Peoples Award, the Smith School Leadership Excellence Award, the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers Lifetime Achievement Award, the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County’s Paul Sarbanes Excellence in Public Service Award and the National Association of Home Builders Award. He is a founding member of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and has helped raise funds for the research and treatment of breast cancer, children’s cancer, muscular dystrophy, leukemia and lymphoma.
St. Louis Small Business Monthly Recognizes Regional Firm
Scheffel Boyle was recently named a “Winning Workplace” by St. Louis Small Business Monthly. Winners were chosen based on their workplace cultures, employee benefit packages and professional attitude toward employee satisfaction and development.
