AICPA Names Goodman as Recipient of Financial Planning Award

The American Institute of CPAs named Michael Goodman, CPA/PFS, as the recipient of the 2014 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award. Goodman is founder of New York City-based Wealthstream Advisors, Inc.

The American Institute of CPAs named Michael Goodman, CPA/PFS, as the recipient of the 2014 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award. Goodman is founder of New York City-based Wealthstream Advisors, Inc.

Lyle Benson, CPA/PFS, chairman of the AICPA Personal Financial Planning Executive Committee, presented the award to Goodman today at the Institute’s Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference in Las Vegas.

The AICPA’s PFP Distinguished Service Award is granted annually to a member who’s volunteer efforts has made significant contributions to the growth and advancement of the personal financial planning profession.

“Michael Goodman’s many contributions to the AICPA have added substantial value to our members,” said Jeannette Koger, and vice president of Member Specialization and Credentialing with the AICPA. “His efforts speaking at conferences and serving as a spokesperson for the CPA financial planning profession have helped raised awareness for the PFP section and the PFS credential.”

An active member of the AICPA for more than nine years, Goodman has served on the Institute’s PFP Executive Committee, Investments Committee and Financial Literacy Commission. One of his most significant contributions has been his extensive work with the PFP Conference Committee. As chair of the committee from 2009-2012 and an active member of the committee since 2006, Goodman helped to advance the conference offering by improving the conference agenda and attracting top industry speakers. His efforts have helped the conference to gain recognition as the best technical conference from experts within and beyond the CPA profession.

Goodman is a regular speaker at AICPA conferences, both leading sessions and serving as a panelist. He serves as a media spokesperson for the PFP/PFS communities, and has been quoted in media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Accounting Today, CNN, and Investment News, which has helped to raise awareness of and further the reputation of the CPA financial planning profession.

He currently serves as a member of the PFP Conference and Investment Committees and is an active participant in several PFP Executive Committee initiatives, including a thought leadership panel, media advisory board. Goodman assists the AICPA in the mindful development of the profession’s future as a member of the PFP Executive Committee Next Generation Task Force.

Goodman currently lives on Long Island in New York with his wife and family.
