Food Fight: Georgia Accounting Professionals Raise Over $100,000 to Fight Hunger

During a friendly, two-week competition, accounting professionals in Georgia participated in the Georgia Society of CPAs’ annual Food Fight, which raised food and funds for Georgia’s eight regional food banks. Since its inception in 2014, the Georgia Accounting Food Fight has collectively raised $305,694 and 37,984 pounds of food. The event took place Aug. 8-19.

This year, 62 accounting firms and industry accounting departments in 22 cities competed in the Food Fight, raising a total of 16,747 pounds of food and $108,434 for Georgia’s food banks. The GFBA presented awards in several categories including Food Fight Hero, Industry, Sole Proprietor, Big Four, Large Firm, Medium Firm and Small Firm. Sole proprietor Anna M. Bolen, CPA, in Lawrenceville won the honor of Grand Prize Food Fight Hero, earning a record-breaking 17,730 points.

“The Georgia Accounting Food Fight is our chance to come together to help families, children, and individuals struggling with hunger. The results of this year’s Food Fight demonstrate the strength, commitment and care of the accounting profession,” GSCPA CEO Boyd Search said.

GSCPA Board of Directors Chair Barbara Evans shared, “I would like to congratulate the winners of this year’s Georgia Accounting Food Fight and thank everyone who participated. As a result of your generosity and hard work, Georgia’s food banks can now provide more than 447,691 meals to families, seniors, and children in need.”

Winners of the 2016 Georgia Accounting Food Fight:

The Grand Prize Food Fight Hero winner, raising food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is Anna M. Bolen, CPA.

The Industry Award winner, raising food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).

The winner of the Big Four category, raising food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is Deloitte & Touche, LLP.

There were two winners in the Large Firm category that both raised food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The per capita winner, for the second year in a row, is Moore Colson. The firm with the greatest total points is Habif, Arogeti, & Wynne, LLP.

There were two winners in the Medium Firm category. Raising food and funds for the Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta, the per capita winner is The Cleveland Group. The firm with the greatest total points, raising food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is Williams Benator & Libby LLP.

The winner of the Small Firm category, raising food and funds for the Golden Harvest Food Bank, is Pennington & Berry, LLC.

The winner of the Sole Proprietor category, raising food and funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is Laura B. Friend, CPA, LLC.
