The Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) hosted its annual Excellence Awards Breakfast on October 28, 2016 in Denver, CO during the AFWA National Conference.

Each year, AFWA is proud to recognize outstanding women who uphold the organization’s mission, demonstrate excellence in their Chapters and careers, and positively influence others. This year’s recipients include:

  • President’s Award: Marie J. Ramkey, CPA of Richmond, VA
  • Emerging Leader: Corinne Dougherty, CPA, CGFM, PMP of Washington D.C.

The President’s Award, presented annually by the Immediate Past President of AFWA, is awarded to a distinguished member who has stood throughout her AFWA career to support both the organization as a whole and its leadership. This year, the prestigious award was presented by Dianna Patton, CPA, CFP® to Marie Ramkey, for not only her dedication and hard work for AFWA, but her unwavering support and encouragement of AFWA’s leadership.

“Marie’s motto is ‘how can I help?’ She is always willing to help behind the scenes offering her talents and skills so others can shine. She has never sought the lime light,” said Dianna Patton, CPA, CFP®.

AFWA’s Emerging Leader Award recognizes an outstanding member, age 35 or under, who has set the standard of excellence in her professional life through leadership, mentoring, and career achievement. This year’s award is presented to Corinne Dougherty, CPA, CGFM, PMP for her work and mentorship in her career at KPMG, her passion for education as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, and her leadership as a member of the AFWA’s Young Professional LEAP Advisory Council.

According to AFWA Member, Diane Dudley, CPA, CGFM, “Corinne consistently demonstrates her commitment to the accounting profession, to the promotion of women, and to her community and exemplifies an AFWA Emerging Leader.”
