Xero, which is known worldwide as a maker of online accounting and business management tools, has launched Xero Dater, a new feature that promises to revolutionize dating. Xero Dater matches entrepreneurs using a proprietary algorithm, delivering the most accurate matchmaking ever for small business owners.

Available as a private beta since 14 February this year, Xero Dater reveals ideal partners by analysing interactions within Xero. When two users are compatible, the system queries marital status and proximity before alerting possible matches. The feature was developed after engineers within Xero’s development team accidentally created an algorithm that was able to match unmarried entrepreneurs based on similar financial data.

Improving the lives of small business owners

Given the company’s commitment to improving the lives of small business owners, Xero UK managing director Gary Turner believes the product sits firmly within Xero’s remit.

“The daily routine of the young startup entrepreneur today is often all-consuming, leaving little time for socialising or meeting new people. That’s why Xero Dater is so groundbreaking – imagine effortlessly reconciling your bank account and simultaneously discovering your life partner.

“We’re pleased to be able to extend the value of Xero beyond beautiful accounting into this new area of beautiful relationships. If we can improve an entrepreneur’s home life by matching them with a compatible partner, we can then help to improve their small business growth,” Turner adds.

Research backs correlation between money and love

Research conducted by the Wellington Institute for the Psychology of Dating (WIPD) on behalf of Xero found that interactions with finances often reflected an individual’s attitude to coupling. Dr Carl Menzies, director of clinical research at WIPD, detailed the implications of the findings: “There’s a direct correlation between an entrepreneur’s relationship with money and their relationship with a romantic partner.

“The most attentive financial planners tend to be more attentive in their love lives. Those who have pre-defined long term goals tend to show earlier commitment and an increased predilection towards marriage.”

Entrepreneur couple engaged to be wed

Throughout the beta stage, Xero Dater has already seen 74.3% of users open communications with a match, and 23.2% have met with a match. One pair of entrepreneurs, Christina Watkins and Kyle Hoffman (pictured), both freelance stock photo models, is now engaged to be wed.

“We’re also considering whether to extend the entrepreneur dating feature into the accounting profession, an employment sector renowned for introversion and shyness, which can often make it tricky to find your soulmate. With Xero, it’s always been a pleasure doing business,” adds Turner. “Now it’s even more so.”

Xero Dater will be available for all small business customers from today onwards at no extra cost. For more information about how Xero Dater can work for you, click here.
