I have been very fortunate in my career and have many exciting moments and achievements. I also tend to celebrate the little victories, which makes for a very fulfilling and, in my opinion, successful career. Having to narrow these down is tough, but here is my top five:
1) Starting my Firm in 2013,
2) Receiving the AICPA Outstanding Young CPA of the Year Award in Honor of Maximo last year,
3) Being recognized on this list for four years running,
4) Becoming part-time faculty at Rice University’s Jones Business School, and
5) Being selected to be the forensic accountant on a Ponzi scheme civil and criminal investigation/case very shortly after starting my Firm.
Financial literacy across all socioeconomic groups is abysmal. Our society, schools, and community have not emphasized this topic. Therefore, I have focused my time instructing on financial literacy for woman and business owners, as these groups have the largest impact on the communities around them. I teach for:
– The Woman’s Resource of Greater Houston, a financial literacy non-profit,
– OwlSpark, Rice University’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator,
– TMCx, Texas Medical Center’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator,
– RedLabs, University of Houston’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator, and as a
– Part Time Faculty, Lilie Entrepreneurship Institute at Rice University Business School

Muhammad Yunus (http://www.muhammadyunus.org/): The first time I heard of the concept of microcredit lending, I was blown away. Later, his concept of social business was the most revolutionary change in the concept of business that I am aware of in recent history. Several years ago, he spoke at the Rice Commencement, and I was fortunate enough go to his book signing. Of course, I slipped and fell in the rain while headed to meet him, which is a hazard when you are the only one in line that was giddy like you would be when meeting a rock-star!
