The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has named Bethany Hearn, CPA, ABV, CFF, as its Business Valuation Volunteer of the Year, and David Duffus, CPA, CFF, ABV, has been awarded the Forensic and Litigation Services Volunteer of the Year. The two were honored at the 2018 AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Conference today in Atlanta, Ga.
“Bethany and David are hard-working CPAs whose dedication has helped advance their respective fields,” said Jeannette Koger, CPA, CGMA, vice president of advisory services and credentialing for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. “They have gone above and beyond, contributing their time by serving on committees, presenting at conferences and authoring resources to help move the forensic and valuation service advisory areas forward.”
Hearn is a principal with CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) in Champaign, Ill. She is currently chair of the AICPA’s ABV Credential Committee and its ABV Exam Content Specification Outline Task Force. In addition, she is past chair and a current member of the AICPA’s ABV Exam Task Force. Hearn played a leading role evolving the ABV Exam from being offered four times a year at testing centers, to a globally-accessible online exam available 365 days a year. In addition, she is a frequent speaker at the AICPA FVS Conference and serves as an instructor for the AICPA’s National Business Valuation School.
Duffus is a partner with Baker Tilly’s forensic, litigation and valuation services team. He currently serves as a member of the AICPA Forensic and Litigation Services Committee and chair of the AICPA Economic Damages Task Force. He has been instrumental in numerous FVS Section initiatives such as co-authoring practice aids, including an upcoming one entitled, “Attaining Reasonable Certainty in Economic Damages Calculations: Revenues, Costs and Best Evidence.” In addition, he is a frequent speaker at the AICPA Forensic & Valuation Services Conference and served as a member of the FVS Conference Planning Committee from 2013 to 2015.

The AICPA’s FVS Section represents professionals who provide forensic accounting and business valuation services. It offers the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) specialty credentials.
