NYU School of Professional Studies to Host 11th Annual Tax Controversy Forum June 20-21 in New York City

On June 20-21, the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Division of Programs in Business Finance, Law, and Taxation programs will host the 11th Annual Tax Controversy Forum at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan. The Forum features interactive presentations delivered by representatives from the government and expert private practitioners who cover a broad range of issues regarding tax audits, appeals, and litigations at all levels.

This year’s Tax Controversy Forum will feature keynote addresses by Charles P. Rettig, Esq., Commissioner, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), on the State of the IRS (Thursday, June 20); Nina E. Olson, Esq., National Taxpayer Advocate, IRS, on the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate – 20 Years Later (Friday, June 21); and Michael R. Schmidt, Commissioner Nominee, New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, on the State of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (Friday, June 21).

“Over the past couple of years, there have been major changes in the tax law that will have a significant impact on businesses and organizations,” said Bryan C. Skarlatos, Esq., the Forum co-chair and a partner at Kostelanetz & Fink LLP. “At this year’s Forum, our expert moderators and participants will lead timely discussions in several important areas related to these tax reforms for those advising clients, handling tax controversies, and making tax-related business decisions over the next 12 months.”

The Forum, also co-chaired by David D. Aughtry, Esq., partner at Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry, is designed for accountants, attorneys, enrolled agents, in-house practitioners, and tax professionals at all levels who prepare for or handle audits, appeals, or tax litigation, as well as those involved in planning and transactional work. Participants qualify for CPE and CLE credits.

In addition to the keynote addresses, the Forum covers a wide range of tax controversy work from procedural seminars to substantive programs, international issues, ethical problems, current enforcement initiatives, sensitive audits, and civil and criminal tax penalties.
