More than 40 graduates of the Illinois CPA Society’s Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program gathered for a reunion last week in Chicago. The Society’s award-winning program is an all-expenses paid opportunity which launches African-American and other minority college students into the accounting profession with access to training, resources, and mentors. At the end of the program, employers interview the students for a variety of paid accounting internships that could lead to full-time jobs. The program is held each year and many alumni from its seven classes of graduates are now working as accounting professionals.

It was a great night of fun, laughter and lots of smiles among alumni who attended the reunion at the Illinois CPA Society’ headquarters. As they re-connected with fellow graduates and had a chance to network, attendees also had fun in the event’s “game night” setting.

Additionally, program scholars will be returning on August 15 for a new program, The Mary T. Washington Wylie Advancing Alumni Conference. This free event will be focused on helping graduates:

  • Discover new ways to get, keep, and grow in a job
  • Find their place, make their voices heard, and fine-tune their communication skills
  • Build trust, credibility, and respect in your relationships
