What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?
One of the most important outreaches I do for the profession is serving on the AICPA PCPS Technical Issues Committee (TIC). TIC provides feedback and comment letters to standard setters which impact private entities and their CPAs. The common misconception is that standard setters don’t care about {insert common complaint here}. However, I have personally found that is the furthest from the truth. The standard setters do read your letters and take them into account when drafting final guidance. I encourage everyone to write a letter when a standard impacts them (or their client, if applicable). The letters don’t have to be overly technical in response or even answer all the questions, but your voice is important.
Favorite books/websites/speakers that you find influential
Simon Sinek was one of the keynote speakers at the AICPA Engage conference earlier this year. His message about finding your “why” was so strong and relevant to daily life. I have known my “why’ in what I do for a while now, but never knew to call it that. I am fulfilled by accounting.
