Helping hands and plenty of smiling faces told the story, as volunteers took part in the Illinois CPA Society’s 10th annual CPA Day of Service. Wearing bright blue volunteer T-shirts, accounting and corporate finance professionals spent Friday, September 20 giving back to their communities and making a big difference in the lives of children, adults and families.

Nearly 1,200 volunteers teamed up at events across the state to help with a variety of projects, including packaging food and clothing for families in need, collecting books and learning materials for children, cleaning up neighborhoods, and a host of other activities.

“We’re so proud of everyone who balanced work schedules in order to spend time in their communities, making lasting impressions on those who are truly grateful,” said Todd Shapiro, President and CEO of the Illinois CPA Society. “Our annual CPA Day of Service is a great opportunity for volunteers to connect with local communities and organizations to make a positive, long-lasting impact.”

Among the many organizations visited by CPA Day of Service volunteers this year were Feed My Starving Children food packaging centers in Aurora and Schaumburg, Twice as Nice Mother & Child Diaper Bank in Gurnee, Little City in Palatine, which serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Bernie’s Book Bank in Lake Bluff.
