The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA), which has one of the largest scholarship funds in the state, is currently accepting scholarship applications from New Jersey high school seniors and college accounting majors. Applications are open until Dec. 11, 2020, for high school students and Jan. 8, 2021, for college students.

The NJCPA Scholarship Fund awards $1,500 one-year scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors intending to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting. The Fund also awards $6,500 one-year scholarships to accounting students at New Jersey colleges or universities who are currently in their junior year or in their senior year and entering an accounting-related graduate program. The Fund has helped support more than 2,000 New Jersey students with awards totaling more than $7 million since 1960.

“Students today have real-world challenges in pursuing a career in accounting,” said Chris Lovasz, CPA, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund and managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP. “These scholarships provide financial support to these individuals as they complete the rigorous education requirements to become a CPA.”

“We are always pleased to award scholarships to deserving students and especially this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic when help may be needed more than ever,” added Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA. “The generosity of our members who donated to the Scholarship Fund is greatly appreciated.”

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, standardized test scores, essays and personal interviews. For a complete list of eligibility requirements and to apply for the awards, visit njcpa.org/scholarships. Winners will be notified in early March.
