Marta Zaniewski has joined the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) as vice president of state regulatory and legislative affairs.
Zaniewski will lead AICPA’s state regulatory and legislative efforts and build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders on issues that impact the CPA profession. She will serve as the AICPA’s primary voice and contact on those matters, working closely with state CPA societies, state boards of accountancy, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing (ARPL) and state legislative and executive branch officials.
“Marta brings a wealth of experience that will greatly benefit our advocacy efforts that support the accounting profession. As we head into the 2021 state legislative sessions, which will heavily focus on managing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, AICPA will continue to collaborate on several issues, including CPA firm mobility, state tax policies and legislation aimed at eliminating the need for professional licensure. We are excited to have Marta on board,” said Mark Peterson, AICPA executive vice president of advocacy.
Zaniewski said, “I look forward to defending the important role CPAs play in our communities through compelling data, outreach, and storytelling. I am also excited to continue my work with ARPL, educating both policymakers and consumers on how reasonable regulation and legislation protects the public while opening doors for practitioners.”
Zaniewski previously served as the assistant vice president for advocacy and external engagement at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). During her time with NCARB she built the organization’s first-ever advocacy program and advocated for reasonable regulation at the state level. Before joining NCARB Zaniewski served as a director of external engagement at the American Institute of Architects, and as a Political Action Committee manager for the National Association of Realtors, where she coordinated the trade association’s state political and grassroots advocacy efforts.
Prior to making the transition to association work, Marta was a political appointee in the Bush-Cheney White House from 2004-2008. She holds her BA from the University of California in Political Science.
