The application process has opened for The Moynihan Scholarship Fund’s (MSF) Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program, in collaboration with the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).

The MSF also provides direct scholarships, in addition to its ongoing sponsorship of the COAP program. COAP is a three-decade-old program, pioneered by CPAs, reaching out to high school students throughout the state of New York. It introduces promising underrepresented high school students to accounting and business careers. The program does this by featuring successful role models and professionals in corporations, accounting firms, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies, as well as by providing an introduction to college life.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 COAP program will be virtual. This year’s participating universities will host the virtual programs on Monday, June 28, and Tuesday, June 29. The participating institutions for the 2021-2022 program are Ithaca College, Medgar Evers College, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Siena College, St. John’s University, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Oswego, and Westchester Community College. During the virtual course, sessions may include an accounting profession overview, basic accounting concepts, career resources, interviewing skills, networking, college financial and admissions prep, and résumé writing. Some courses will be taught by instructors from nationally recognized Robert Half Finance & Accounting, a pioneering accounting and staffing firm that specializes in resume writing and interview preparation.

Students seeking to apply should submit their applications online by no later than June 20, 2021, at 11:59 pm.
