BPM LLP, one of the 50 largest public accounting and advisory firms in the country, has announces that Of Counsel Michael M. Savoy has been re-elected as president of the California Board of Accountancy (CBA). This marks Savoy’s third term as CBA president, a position he also held in 2014 and 2018.

The CBA regulates the accounting profession for the public interest by establishing and maintaining entry standards of qualification and conduct within the industry, primarily through its authority to license. The CBA currently regulates more than 114,000 licensees, the largest group of licensed accounting professionals in the nation, including individuals and CPA firms. In addition to his two prior terms as president, Savoy has served as vice president and secretary/treasurer.

“It gives us immense pride to see Michael re-elected to this prestigious position,” said BPM’s Los Angeles Managing Partner, Rick Parent. “With his many years of dedicated service to the accounting profession as well as his local community, Michael embodies our firm’s values of Community, Integrity, Knowledge and Excellence.”

“I’m thrilled to lead the CBA once again, particularly as this group is all about upholding the integrity and quality of our profession and ensuring businesses and individuals have access to knowledgeable and highly trained professionals,” said Savoy. “It’s a mission the CBA has held strong for 120 years, and all of our elected officials continue to carry the torch.”

With nearly 50 years of experience in business-related accounting and tax matters, Savoy has assisted numerous clients with litigation support, succession planning and exit strategies, tax planning and compliance, restructuring, and refinancing debt. He is an expert on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and is frequently called upon to speak for the CalCPA Educational Foundation on succession planning and exit strategies with an emphasis on ESOPs.

Savoy serves as treasurer and on the executive and finance committees for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. He is the former chairman of the Americas Region Board of BKR International. Additionally, Savoy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) and the Employee Stock Ownership Plan Association. He earned his B.B.A. in accounting from Pace University, New York City.
