IRS Agent Seeks Whistleblower Status to Discuss Problems with Hunter Biden Tax Probe

The agent claims the IRS mishandled an investigation into Hunter Biden and wants to disclose concerns about his taxes.

A senior IRS agent says the agency has mishandled an investigation into Hunter Biden and is seeking whistleblower status to openly disclose concerns about the presidential son’s taxes.

The agent’s attorney told Congress that his client has information about a “failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest” in the criminal investigation into the younger Biden’s taxes and his apparent lies about a gun purchase.

“Despite serious risks of retaliation, my client is offering to provide you with information necessary to exercise your constitutional oversight function,” Mark Lytle, the lawyer, said in a letter to top lawmakers.

The anonymous supervisory special agent says he previously disclosed the information internally with the IRS and a watchdog for the Justice Department.

Lytle added that his client has evidence that contradicts sworn testimony to lawmakers by an unnamed “senior political appointee.”

The special agent also wants to disclose “examples of preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected,” the lawyer added.

The White House said in a statement that the Hunter Biden probe has been handled “without interference.”

Hunter Biden’s taxes and foreign business work have been under federal investigation by a federal grand jury in Delaware since at least 2018. So far no charges have been filed.

Republicans have longed questioned if Hunter Biden used his father’s prominence to win a role on the board of a Ukrainian energy company and strike lucrative business deals in China.

President Biden insists he has never spoken to his son about foreign business. There are no indications that the federal investigation involves the president.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a congressional hearing last month that he won’t interfere with the department’s investigation.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the top federal prosecutor in Delaware who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, is leading a probe of Hunter Biden and can expand his investigation if needed.

The IRS whistleblower letter was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The allegations come as House Republicans have opened their own investigations into Hunter Biden, including foreign payments and other aspects of his finances.
