For the 11th straight year, PwC is the top public accounting firm to work for, according to the recently released Vault Accounting 25 for 2024.

PwC had a score of 8.584 out of 10, just ahead of Deloitte which had a score of 8.432. Rounding out the top five were KPMG, BDO USA, and RSM US, which moved up from eighth in Vault’s 2023 ranking to fifth for 2024. The website, which provides career resources and advice to students and job seekers, has graded the top accounting firms annually since 2010.

To determine scores for its ranking, Vault surveyed more than 11,000 accounting professionals and asked them to rate their firms in several workplace categories, including benefits, compensation, culture, diversity, hours, satisfaction, training, wellness offerings, and work/life balance. They were also asked to rate firms other than their own in terms of prestige. The Accounting 25 is then compiled using a weighted formula based on these internal and external rankings.

According to Vault, accountants at peer firms say PwC is “progressive,” “diverse,” “the gold standard,” “the top dog of the Big 4,” “super prestigious,” and “filled with great people.” It also offers “thorough training resources” and “great benefits.” Meanwhile, PwC staff members say the firm has an “amazing culture” with “smart, caring, friendly, motivated people,” and provides “challenging work and opportunities for growth and development.”

Second-place Deloitte is a “high-performing,” “hardworking,” “excellent large firm,” with a “strong rep,” “great perks and benefits,” and “top-notch training,” according to Vault. Deloitte staff members praise the firm’s “collaborative and supportive culture,” “good compensation,” and “constant learning and growth opportunities.”

KPMG’s peers call the firm “strong globally,” “prestigious,” “welcoming,” “fun,” “collaborative,” and “friendly,” and has a “good reputation.” KPMG insiders rave about the firm’s “inclusive team environment,” “caring people,” and “great flexible work policies.”
