Their energy and drive for the accounting profession is something we support and want to highlight at the NJCPA,” said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.

The AICPA Leadership Academy was designed to strengthen and expand the leadership skills of promising young professionals while they network with a peer group of talented and motivated CPAs. It features career-development workshops and sessions with some of the accounting profession’s most prominent influencers. Participants were selected from public accounting firms of all sizes, business and industry, government and consulting firms.

Attendees were recommended by their employers, state CPA societies and/or volunteer organizations. To date, more than 480 CPAs have participated in the AICPA Leadership Academy, many of whom have gone on to take on leadership positions in their firms, businesses and volunteer organizations.

Career Awareness Event Brings CPAs to Classrooms to Inspire Future Accountants

Texas Society of CPAs (TXCPA) is excited to announce our collaboration with the American Institute of CPAs and fellow state CPA societies throughout the U.S. for a unique career awareness event aimed at inspiring and educating students about career opportunities in accounting. Accounting Opportunities Month will bring Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) into middle school, high school and college classrooms to share their career journeys, debunk common myths, and provide valuable insights into the accounting profession.

This collaborative effort is designed to foster interest in accounting careers and help dispel misconceptions often associated with the profession. Accounting is more than just numbers; it’s about problem-solving, decision-making, and contributing to the financial well-being of individuals and organizations. This outreach aims to motivate students of all ages to explore the rewarding path of becoming a CPA.

What to Expect:

  • Engaging Presentations: Skilled CPAs from various backgrounds and experiences will visit classrooms to share their personal journeys and experiences. They will discuss the diverse career opportunities within the field and provide valuable insights into the education and training required to become a CPA.
  • Interactive Q&As: Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, get firsthand advice, and learn about the different areas of specialization within accounting.
  • Career Myth-Busting: CPAs will debunk common myths about accounting, such as it being boring or monotonous, and will illustrate the dynamic and evolving nature of the profession.
  • Networking Opportunities: Students will have the chance to connect with professionals who can provide guidance and advice on pursuing an accounting career.

TXCPA is committed to providing students with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their future careers. This career awareness event is an important step toward achieving that goal.
