The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants delivered 2,369 pounds of nonperishable items and canned goods for its fourteenth annual food drive in November to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. NJCPA volunteers also assisted with packing more than 2,300 bags of pasta at the FoodBank.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey has been delivering food and food supplies to needy families in 15 counties in the state for nearly 50 years. Through its distribution partners, it helps provide food to pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other charities in need of assistance.

The NJCPA food drive is hosted by its Emerging Leaders Council, an appointed leadership group that addresses the needs of NJCPA members with up to 10 years of experience, including aspiring CPAs and new licensees. Since 2010, the NJCPA has donated more than 22,000 pounds of food items to the FoodBank.

“The annual food drive is a wonderful reminder of how strong our community is when it comes to helping those in need. No family should ever have to choose between feeding themselves or other life necessities, and we’re proud of our NJCPA members who came together to help fight hunger,” said Zachary Cohen, CPA, senior manager at CFGI and chair of the Emerging Leaders Council.

“Food insecurity is a huge problem across the nation and continues to be felt in New Jersey,” said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA. “CPAs give so much of their time and talent on a regular basis, it’s no wonder they keep our rich tradition of helping the hungry and food insecure during this holiday season. We could not be prouder of our members and their contribution to this effort.”
