Recent Career Highlights
At Schellman we’re in an exciting time in our firm’s history as we continue to grow and climb up the Top 100 CPA Firms list.  We were ranked in the Top 60 in 2022, and I’m hopeful we’ll continue to climb up that list once the 2023 rankings are published.  It’s pretty remarkable given we were only about 50 employees when I joined the firm in 2013 and the only firm on that list who does not have a financial audit or tax arm, with our focus specializing in information security and data privacy audit and compliance assessments.  With our growth trajectory, a lot of opportunities have presented themselves to challenge myself and grow in terms of business development and leadership skills.  I also get a lot of fulfillment from watching my team grow and guiding them in their professional journeys.  Lastly, I’m proud that I’ve kept my commitment to myself in terms of prioritizing my health by completing three 100-mile ultramarathons in the past 10 months.

What are you doing to make a difference in the profession, your community, the world?
I am a big advocate of self-improvement and development.  We can all be better in each area of our lives – whether that be at work, in our relationships, as parents, or with our physical and mental health and wellbeing.  I try to spread that message throughout my professional network and personal life and be a mentor for those seeking career and life advice and guidance.

Recent Professional Reading / Listening
I run every morning and am big into audiobooks and podcasts.  Lewis Howes’ School of Greatness is great for overall self-improvement, Dr. Andrew Huberman’s Huberman Lab touches a lot of different areas (nutrition, technology, neuroscience, overall health, etc.), Jocko Willink’s Extreme Ownership is a book I recommend to all new managers at our firm (or anyone taking on a new leadership position), Make Your Bed by Admiral William McRaven (leadership / life skills), Rich Roll Podcast (health, nutrition), and finally David Goggins’ two books inspired me to make a lot of positive changes in my life (although fair warning as there’s some colorful language in there.

See all of the 2023 “40 Under 40” and “20 Under 40” honorees.

6 Ways to Avoid a Financial Hangover

The festivity of December is replaced all too quickly by the due dates of January, when the bills from holiday spending and travel arrive. This kind of financial hangover can make the start of the year a little less joyful, but there are ways to prevent it.
