A New York jury has found former President Donald J. Trump guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business expenses. The jurors had deliberated for about 10 hours over two days, after several weeks of trial in the Manhattan court of Judge Juan Merchan.
Trump had been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying records to record a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels as business expenses. The charges were elevated to felonies due to the jury’s finding that they were related to the commission of another crime, which was alleged to be campaign finance violations under state and federal law.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 11, 2024.
Trump also faces charges in federal cases related to the January 6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol, and alleged possession of classified documents after leaving office, as well as state charges in Georgia over election fraud allegations. Trump is the only former U.S. president to have been charged or convicted of crimes after leaving office.
