Top seven accounting firm Grant Thornton admitted its annual class of new partners and principals and promoted a group of professionals to managing directors, effective Aug. 1.

Grant Thornton Advisors LLC, which provides non-attest services, admitted nine new principals and promoted 22 professionals to managing directors, while Grant Thornton LLP, which provides attest services, admitted 13 new partners and promoted 12 professionals to managing directors.

The firm now operates as an alternative practice structure—allowing Grant Thornton to comply with securities laws prohibiting conflicts of interest that could impair the objectivity of its auditors—following a significant private equity investment from New Mountain Capital. That deal closed on May 31.

Of the newly promoted professionals, the largest number (44%) practice in audit and assurance at Grant Thornton LLP, followed by professionals at Grant Thornton Advisors working in the tax (27%), advisory (20%) and internal services (9%) areas.
