Carr, Riggs & Ingram Adds ProSport CPA

The move expands CRI's specialized tax and accounting services to cater to the unique needs of professional athletes and entertainers.

Top 25 accounting firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram (CRI) CPAs and Advisors has added ProSport CPA—a New Kent County, VA-based firm that specializes in tax and accounting services within the sports and entertainment niche—to CRI’s family of companies.

The move expands CRI’s specialized tax and accounting services to cater to the unique needs of professional athletes and entertainers, the firm said in a media release.

“Integrating ProSport CPA into the CRI family of companies marks a pivotal expansion of our specialized services for the sports and entertainment sectors,” Bill Carr, managing partner of Enterprise, AL-based CRI, said in a statement. “ProSport CPA brings a wealth of specialized knowledge that complements our existing services, positioning us uniquely to address the sophisticated needs of our clients and set new standards in the industry.”

Founded in 2009 by John Karaffa, ProSport CPA offers unique insight into the complex tax needs of professional athletes and entertainers. Karaffa’s thorough knowledge and personal experience with the intricate “jock tax” landscape enables him to navigate multistate, city, and international tax obligations, providing useful guidance to his clients.

“Joining the CRI family enables us to leverage a vast network of resources while continuing to provide the high-quality boutique service our clients value,” Karaffa said in a statement. “This collaboration not only extends our service capabilities but also positions us to better handle the increasingly complex tax, accounting, and business management needs of our elite clientele in the world of sports and entertainment. Game on!”

Allan Koltin, CEO of Koltin Consulting Group, who advised both firms on the merger, said, “John Karaffa and his team are recognized as top-tier tax advisors nationwide, serving professional athletes across all major sports. This union with CRI is a significant gain, instantly positioning them on the competitive ‘playing field.’ ProSport CPA, sought after by many leading firms, chose CRI for its compatible culture and the promising growth opportunities for its staff. This alliance not only strengthens their capabilities but also expands the expertise and resources available to ProSport CPA’s clientele.”
