State CPA Society News & Updates is a selection of recent announcements and initiatives by CPA associations in the United States and its territories.

The Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) honored its top members in six different categories at its 93rd Annual Meeting and Convention held in Kingsport, Tennessee, on June 11-13, 2024.

CPA of the Year Award
The CPA of the Year Award recognizes a CPA who has made outstanding contributions toward advancing the accounting profession.

Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given in recognition of a TSCPA member who has exhibited leadership, made significant contributions to the profession and had an outstanding record of service to the society and the local community.

The Women to Watch Award highlights the accomplishments of women in the profession and demonstrates to emerging female leaders that success is not out of reach. The award is given in two categories, Experienced Leaders and Emerging Leaders.

Emerging Leader Award
The Emerging Leader Award is given to someone who has been working in the accounting profession 10 years or less. The award is presented to an individual who has made noteworthy professional accomplishments and stood out in the areas of professional knowledge, skill, integrity and leadership.

Special Recognition Award
Special Recognition Awards are given to individuals who have contributed to the success of a TSCPA project or initiative.

In addition, the Tennessee Society of CPAs recently announced the election of its 2024-25 board of directors.

The newly elected board includes Kelly S. Crow, CPA, of Reynolds, Bone & Griesbeck PLC in Memphis, chair; Heather Batson, CPA, of Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC in Chattanooga, chair-elect; and Jonathan C. Bailey, CPA, of Kingsport, past chair. At-large members of the board include Courtney Bach, CPA, of LBMC in Brentwood; Stephanie Fowler, CPA, of HORNE LLP in Jackson; Richard W. Hill, CPA, of Mitchell Emert & Hill, PC, CPAs in Knoxville; Dimeta Smith Knight, CPA, of Dimeta Smith, CPA, LLC in Nashville; Andrea Meinardi, CPA, of Crowe LLP in Franklin; Keith O’Connor, CPA, of Pugh CPAs in Knoxville; Gina B. The Nebraska Society of CPAs (NESCPA) opened nominations for four awards, with recipients selected by a the Society Board of Directors. The awards are:

Distinguished Service to the Profession Award

Outstanding Accounting Educator Award

Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry Award

The Alabama Society of CPAs (ASCPA) has opened registration for its Governmental Accounting and Auditing Forum, which will take place December 9-11, 2024 in Montgomery, AL. The Forum will be in-person and broadcast live. The price to attend the Forum is $350 for both members and nonmembers.

The South Carolina Association of CPAs (SCACPA) is kicking off The SCACPA Roadshow, which will take place in the following areas:

Sea Island – August 20, 2024

Coastal – August 21, 2024

Pee Dee – August 27, 2024

Grand Strand – August 28, 2024

Piedmont – September 4, 2024

Foothills – September 5, 2024

Catawba – September 11, 2024

Central – September 12, 2024
