Herbein Acquires Bumpers & Co. in Delaware

The top 200 firm has established its first location in Delaware after acquiring Bumpers, an accounting and advisory firm in Wilmington.

Top 200 accounting firm Herbein + Co. has established its first location in Delaware after acquiring Bumpers & Co., a Wilmington, DE-based full-service accounting and advisory firm, effective Oct. 28.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Bumpers’ managing partner, Douglas Kook, director Chadwick Milton, and the firm’s team of 18 professionals will remain at their current Wilmington location, which will become a new Herbein office. Kook and Milton will be partners at Herbein.

David Stonesifer

David Stonesifer, CEO of Reading, PA-based Herbein, said Bumpers is a good fit because of the two firms’ shared vision of excellence and professional development.

“We are very excited for the Bumpers team to join Herbein, and the possibilities that lie ahead are immense. We look forward to working with the Bumpers & Co. team to help clients succeed with confidence in the Delaware market,” Stonesifer said in a statement.

Founded in 1922, Bumpers has established a strong reputation in Wilmington and surrounding areas for providing accounting, auditing, tax, and management advisory services to individuals, small businesses, and professional clients.

“Herbein’s depth of knowledge, experience, and resources will allow us to better serve our clients and enhance our current service offerings,” Kook said. “By joining forces with Herbein, we can offer new opportunities for our people to learn and develop professionally alongside the firm’s exceptional team and broad client base.”

Milton said culture was a key factor in the decision to join Herbein.

“Although Herbein continues to drive success nationally and internationally, it is also well-known for its focus on supporting the communities where its teams live and work,” he said. “After more than 100 years in business, we knew the ‘fit’ had to be perfect for our team, our clients, and our community—and we are confident joining Herbein gives our clients the edge they need to grow their businesses and stay competitive in today’s dynamic business environment.”

This is the first deal Herbein has made in almost a year. Last November, the firm announced it had acquired Pittsburgh-based CPA firm Creese, Smith, Hune & Co.
