Top 60 accounting firm Doeren Mayhew has expanded its footprint in western Michigan by acquiring Biggs, Hausserman, Thompson & Dickinson (BHT&D CPAs), a Saranac-based full-service CPA firm.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. BHT&D and its employees began operating under the Doeren Mayhew name effective Oct. 2.
“We’re committed to continuing to grow our West Michigan market. BHT&D is a great fit to help us do that,” Joshua Garvey, Grand Rapids’ managing principal at Doeren Mayhew Advisors, said in a statement. “Serving the local market for more than 53 years, their team has forged strong ties in our community. This opportunity allows us to expand our reach in the Saranac and Ada areas while growing our tax team at the same time.”
Founded by Virgil Biggs in 1971, BHT&D has focused on providing tax, accounting, and advisory services to West Michigan area businesses and individuals. Shareholders Joseph Turnes, Aric Salgat, and Dwayne Houghton will continue in tax leadership roles at Doeren Mayhew.
“We’re excited about what the future holds for us with Doeren Mayhew,” said Turnes, BHT&D’s managing partner. “Putting our clients’ needs at the forefront, we recognize offering enhanced services is necessary to help them continue meeting their goals well into the future. Joining a larger firm like Doeren Mayhew allows our clients to benefit from an expanded suite of services and technical resources. We look forward to continuing to serve our clients with a firm whose commitment to the local area perfectly aligns with ours.”
Troy, MI-based Doeren Mayhew is among the accounting firms that have received an infusion of capital from a private equity firm, recently selling a stake to Audax Private Equity. The firm said in late August that the investment will allow it to broaden its geographic footprint via continued acquisitions, as well as to enhance its service offerings, technology infrastructure, and overall employee and client experience.
Doeren Mayhew now operates in an alternative practice structure: Doeren Mayhew Assurance will provide attest services as a licensed CPA firm, while Doeren Mayhew Advisors LLC will provide business advisory, tax, and non-attest services. Collectively, these entities and its subsidiaries will continue under the brand name Doeren Mayhew.
Doeren Mayhew entered the West Michigan market in 2022 with its acquisition of Beene Garter LLP.
