Top 30 accounting firms Sikich and Cherry Bekaert have struck a deal in which Sikich has acquired the federal contracts of Cherry Bekaert Advisory supporting the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Six members from Cherry Bekaert’s team are joining Sikich as a result of the transaction, bringing extensive experience in cost management and activity-based information to the Chicago-based firm. In addition, Aurpon Bhattacharya will join Sikich from Cherry Bekaert Advisory as a principal in the federal government practice.
This deal marks Sikich’s fifth transaction in the D.C. metropolitan area over the last five years:
- 2019: Sikich acquires public accounting firm Halt, Buzas & Powell.
- 2022: Sikich acquires Cotton & Company.
- 2023: Sikich acquires the federal government practice of CLA.
- 2024: Sikich acquires Saggar & Rosenberg.
“Five years ago, Sikich set course to build the country’s preeminent U.S. federal government professional services practice, based here in D.C.,” Steven Koons, a principal at Sikich and leader of the firm’s federal government service line, said in a statement. “While other consulting firms exit the federal government space, Sikich is fully resourced to provide a variety of professional services to major government entities and to ensure that taxpayer money and data are properly handled. I look forward to welcoming Aurpon and the team to Sikich.”
Last May, Sikich locked up a $250 million minority investment from private equity firm Bain Capital to support the accounting firm’s aggressive growth strategy, focused on acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
As part of the deal, Sikich maintains majority control of the company and its existing executive and leadership teams, led by CEO Christopher Geier.
