On March 6, Bloomberg Industry Group hosted “Making Artificial Intelligence Work for You Today,” an executive forum on AI, which brought together AI thought leaders from law firms, tax and accounting firms, large corporations, and political circles to explore real-world applications where generative AI tools are making a genuine impact today.
Presented by Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Tax, and Bloomberg Government, the event featured a keynote fireside chat with Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-Ca.) and Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Ca.), who co-chaired the Task Force on Artificial Intelligence that both Congressmen co-chaired in the 118th Congress. They discussed advocating for the task force to be transformed into a select committee to oversee the drafting and implementation of AI-related legislation, emphasizing the importance of bipartisanship and balancing innovation with safety and security.
The event also featured a panel discussion of C-suite thought leaders, including attorneys and tax advisors, who shared their organization’s approach to generative AI tools and applications. Participants Taryn Crane, global AI governance leader, privacy & data protection practice leader, BDO, Carmel Wynkoop, partner-in-charge – AI, analytics & automation, Armanino Advisory LLC, and John A. Zevitas, VP & managing legal counsel, T. Rowe Price Associates, discussed the importance of responsible AI use, including data governance, intellectual property concerns, and the need for cross-functional teams to manage AI adoption and risks.
A second panel discussion focused on industry perspectives on regulations of generative AI applications. Tom Quaadman, senior vice president, economic policy, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Jason Oxman, president and CEO, Information Technology Industry Council, discussed what businesses should demand from U.S. Congress when it comes to regulation and legislation around generative AI applications to foster innovation responsibly.
“At Bloomberg Industry Group, we see generative AI as a long game, one that requires careful deliberate execution,” said Bobby Puglia, chief product officer, Bloomberg Industry Group, as he introduced the event. “We’re committed to rolling out AI features with precision, ensuring that they’re not only innovative, but also practical and trustworthy. We rely on our deep expertise, collaborative mindset, and commitment to meeting our clients where they are.”
