Some of my careers highlights have included working as a Senior Tax Consultant for Deloitte, starting Riskin Advisory, LLC (college planning practice), joining my father as a partner in Riskin & Riskin, PC (public accounting firm), joining Albertus Magnus College as an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance and eventually becoming the Director of Finance Programs where I helped establish the only CFP Board Registered Undergraduate Program in the state of Connecticut and have partnered with the AICPA to be one of the first schools in the country to offer the Essentials in Personal Financial Planning Course in our Master of Science in Accounting Program, and finally, founding the American Institute of Certified College Financial Consultants to create the premiere education and certification program for CPAs and financial planners who wish to learn how to properly assist their clients in the areas of college and student loan advising.

I feel fortunate that the work I do in all of my professional ventures is able to extend beyond the accounting community and make a difference in the lives of everyday individuals while still inspiring change within the profession. Outside of my day to day duties, I have dedicated my time to giving presentations to high school and college students, along with their parents in some instances, on the subjects of college financial planning and financial literacy. It is important for students and their parents to understand basic financial concepts especially as many of them are preparing for possibly one of the largest expenses they will incur in their lifetimes; college.

Favorite influencer(s) (authors, bloggers, mentors, speakers, etc.) –

This is a tough question for me to answer as I truly feel that I have been able to draw inspiration from many individuals in different areas throughout my career. In the fields of accounting and finance, Michael Kitces (Pinnacle Advisory Group), Bob Keebler (Keebler & Associates, LLP), and Paul Lee (The Northern Trust) have all influenced me especially as I continue to improve the quality and delivery of my presentations both at professional conferences and in the classroom. All three of these individuals have accomplished amazing things in their professional careers and their passion and professionalism is truly inspiring.
