The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) is celebrating its 125th Anniversary.
The NYSSCPA was incorporated on Jan. 28, 1897, led by founding president Charles Waldo Haskins. Since its inception as the first state society for certified public accountants in the nation, the NYSSCPA has been the leading educator of and advocate for CPAs, financial and accounting professionals, and the profession-at-large.
The NYSSCPA serves its membership by leading the fight for the accounting profession in local and state government; providing in-person and online networking opportunities; offering continuing professional education (CPE) courses and conferences; operating over 50 committees with in-depth focuses and specializations; and publishing multiple profession-focused, award-winning publications.
The NYSSCPA currently operates the Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE), a 501(c)(3) affiliate that provides lifelong CPE to CPAs; The Moynihan Scholarship Fund (MSF), a 501(c)(3) affiliate that aims to support the education and development of high school students through the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program by facilitating their exposure to accounting and business careers, provide college scholarships to accounting students in New York state, and increase diversity within the profession; and lastly, the CPA Political Action Committee (PAC), which aims to create political influence in Albany and with local governments.
Today, the NYSSCPA serves 23,000 CPAs and related professionals. They are led by President Rumbi Bwerinofa-Petrozzello, CPA; President-elect Lynne M. Fuentes, CPA; and CEO and Executive Director Joanne S. Barry, CAE.
