FORVIS adds Michael Shekel to forensics and valuation team in Washington, D.C. market
FORVIS recently welcomed Michael Shekel as a managing director with the firm’s forensics and valuation team. Shekel joins the firm with more than 20 years of experience, focused primarily on valuation services. Prior to joining FORVIS, Shekel led the valuation advisory services for professional M&A and accounting firms with a focus on middle-market business development companies, private-equity funds, and real estate entities.
His overall experience includes extensive emphasis on portfolio-companies across many industries, complex financial instruments, leverage debt securities, intangible assets, renewable energy valuations, and fractional ownership interests in real estate deals. Shekel is a registered CPA and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV). He holds several valuation and industry memberships including with the AICPA Business Valuation and Forensic & Litigation Services and the American Society of Appraisers. Shekel holds an M.B.A. in finance from Johns Hopkins University. He received bachelor’s degrees in economics and in finance and accounting from the University of Maryland.
AuditBoard Appoints Accomplished SaaS Executive Roxanne Oulman to Board of Directors
AuditBoard,the leading cloud-based platform transforming how businesses manage risk, recently announced the appointment of Roxanne Oulman, former CFO of Medallia and CallidusCloud (SAP), to its board of directors. She brings deep experience in leading finance organizations at high-growth SaaS companies through IPO and beyond and serves on both the board of directors and audit committees for public and private companies.
Oulman joins the AuditBoard board of directors after most recently serving as EVP and CFO at Medallia, where she led its successful IPO in 2019. Medallia was publicly traded (NYSE: MDLA) until its purchase by Thoma Bravo for $6.4B in October of 2021. Prior to that, as EVP and CFO of CallidusCloud, she was instrumental in driving the growth of the company’s market capitalization from $350 million to $2.4 billion, and led diligence efforts for its sale to SAP. Oulman currently serves as a member of the board and the audit committee chair for both CalAmp and Plume Design, Inc., and is a board member of Klaviyo. These roles, coupled with her prior experience as a finance executive, provide her with firsthand insight into the unique challenges audit and risk teams face in managing today’s dynamic risk environment.
Massachusetts Society of CPAs Names 19 to Board of Directors
The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs) recently announced the appointment of 19 members to its Board of Directors for its 2023-2024 fiscal year, which began May 1.
MassCPAs Board of Directors is a group of elected members that sets policies, manages programs and oversees activities that benefit the 11,500-member organization and accounting profession in Massachusetts.

Indiana University Bloomington Ranks Among Peace Corps’ Historically Top Volunteer-Producing Schools
Peace Corps recently recognized Indiana University Bloomington (IU) among all schools on the agency’s list of historically top volunteer-producing colleges and universities. Since 2003, IU has ranked number 12 among the top 25 schools. Additionally, in 2020, the state of Indiana ranked number 23 among all states and territories with the highest number of Peace Corps volunteers since 1961.
Indiana University Bloomington is one of nearly 150 schools across the country that offers Peace Corps Prep, a partnership program dedicated to preparing undergraduates for service abroad.
Volunteers from Indiana are among the more than 240,000 Americans who have served around the world in areas such as agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health and youth development volunteers since President Kennedy’s bold request. Over 3,553 have served in the Peace Corps, and more than 1,762 IU alumni that served abroad as Peace Corps volunteers since the agency’s founding in 1961.
MassCPAs Launches New Scholarship to Honor Legacy of Amy A. Pitter
The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs), the state’s professional association representing 11,500 members, recently announced the launch of the Amy A. Pitter Presidential Scholarship, to honor the legacy of its President and CEO, who will retire at on December 31, 2023.
The Society will award the $5,000 scholarship each year to a deserving undergraduate or graduate student pursuing an accounting degree in Massachusetts. Scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive application process by the Board of Directors of the Society’s Educational Foundation. To qualify, students must have completed at least the first semester of their sophomore year; sustain a superior academic standing; have financial need; be willing to complete four hours of accounting-related community service; and intend to pursue a CPA career in Massachusetts.
MassCPAs’ Scholarship Program is funded by contributions to the Society’s Educational Foundation. The Foundation supports and inspires a diverse pipeline of future CPAs through a series of initiatives focused on financial support, college and career readiness programs and resources for high school and college students.
