State CPA Society News & Updates is a round-up of recent announcements and initiatives by CPA associations in the United States and its territories.
The Arkansas Society of CPAs (ARCPA) will be hosting its 43rd Annual Accounting & Auditing Conference August 3 – August 4. This in-person only conference will cover topics such as Ethics & Forensic Accounting, Data Analytics, Leadership, and Artificial Intelligence. The conference will take place in Rogers, AR, with a base price of $470, with ARCPA members receiving $100 off the base price. Registration is available online or those interested can fill out the conference registration form and register via mail.
Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants or MACPA recently held its second annual Celebrate the Profession Event, paying tribute to Maryland CPAs. The event was held at the Junior Achievement of Central Maryland offices and focused on the accomplishments of MACPA members and volunteers. Some of the highlighted accomplishments include:
- 29 Maryland accounting students received more than $75,000 in scholarships from the MACPA Foundation.
- The addition of 87 new MACPA ‘Legacy Members;’ members who have supported MACPA and the accounting profession for more than 40 years.
- MACPA members Jessica McClain, Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, and Lexy Kessler were included in the AICPA/CPA Practice Advisor’s list of the Most Powerful Women in Accounting for 2023.
- 23 college students graduated from MACPA’s Student Leadership Academy.
The South Carolina Association of CPAs or SCACPA announced the return of the SCACPA Roadshow which will take place in August and September of 2023. The Roadshow offers eight events in communities throughout South Carolina with locations in 2023 including:
- Hardeeville
- Charleston
- Florence
- Myrtle Beach
- Furman University
- Spartanburg
- Rock Hill
- Columbia
Each event includes 5 hours of CPE, with those interested able to register online.
The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants or MICPA is holding the 45th Annual Small Firm Practitioners Conference on August 16, 2023. Held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo, MI, the conference features interactive panel discussions, workshops, along with both traditional and interactive sessions on a variety of topics. Cost for Association members is $188 or $263 for non-members.
The Ohio Society of CPAs or OSCPA announced its annual Fraud and Forensic Conference, which will take place on August 29, 2023. The virtual conference offers the following topics:
- Novel ways of finding fraud
- Strategies to diagnose irregularities in bankruptcy
- Methods of tracking fraud between fiat and cryptocurrencies
- Effective manners of investigating money laundering
- Current trends and updates to fraud cases throughout finance
The cost of the conference is $325 for those that register by August 1.
