January 2013 – News in Review

The biggest news of the new year was focused on taxes and the IRS.

With the “fiscal cliff” tax deal finally signed at the beginning of the month, several articles about its impact on individual income tax rates, estate taxation, business depreciation and expenses topped the bill.

The second hottest topic was the ongoing attempt by the IRS to regulate tax preparers. The Registered Tax Return Preparer program was halted by a federal circuit court judge as unconsitutional, and the IRS is appealing the ruling.
