What Are Cookies?

We use the term “cookie” to describe cookies and similar technologies, such as tags and pixels. Cookies are small, text-based data files that web sites place on your computer, laptop, tablet, phone, or other mobile device when you view a web site.

How We Use Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  • To improve the performance of our web site by understanding which parts work well, and which don’t.
  • To deliver relevant online advertising to you on other web sites. This is sometimes done by combining data that we already have about you with the data collected through cookies. These cookies are placed by us, as well as selected, trusted third parties, and enable relevant ads to be presented to you on third-party web sites.
  • To measure how effective our online advertising and marketing communications are.
  • To enable us to collect information about how you and others navigate and use our site.
  • To improve your overall experience on our site.

What Cookies Do We Use?

We use the following Cookies:

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies.

These are cookies that are required for the operation of our site. They are necessary for the safety, security, and integrity of the site. For example, they help support the structure of the pages that are displayed to you, help to improve navigation, and allow you to return to pages that you have previously visited. This type of Cookie only lasts for the duration of your visit to our site. When you leave our site, they are deleted automatically (by your browser).

  • Performance and Analytical Cookies.

These cookies allow us to recognize and count the number of visitors to our site, and to understand how visitors move around our site when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our site works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

The data obtained from performance and analytical cookies is aggregated (combined with lots of other data), which means that it cannot be used to identify you as an individual or as part of a specific household.

  • Functional Cookies.

These are used to help us recognize you when you return to our site. This helps us to personalize our content for you, such as greeting you by your preferred name, and remembering your preferences, such as page theme, colors, and layout, if configurable.

Session cookies are an example of functional cookies. When you visit a site that requires you to log in (such as your CPAPA customer dashboard), a session cookie placed by the site allows you to return to that site without having to re-enter your username and password each time.

Functional cookies remain on your device until you choose to clear your cookie cache. If you choose to clear your cookie cache (or block all cookies), you will need to re-enter your details (including your username and password, if applicable) each time you visit the site.

Note: For security reasons, session cookies have a set expiration period, and you may have to re-enter your username and password from time to time.

  • Targeting Cookies.

These cookies collect information about your browsing habits, and allow us to show you relevant ads while you are browsing other sites on the Internet. They are selected and set by us, or by carefully-selected third parties.

They help us and the selected third parties to understand the performance of our marketing activities, and they also help to improve the relevance of the ads that you see.

You can manage your cookie preferences here: Manage Cookie Preferences

Blocking or Restricting Cookies

You can control how cookies are managed on your device by configuring the relevant setting on your browser. These settings allow you to block the deployment of some or all cookies to your device.

The Netwrix Blog has an excellent article that explains cookies in detail, including how to configure your browser settings to manage cookies according to your specific preferences. You can view the article here.

Note: Configuring your browser settings to block all cookies may result in you being unable to properly view and/or use certain web sites, including ours.

Blocking session cookies may also result in your inability to successfully authenticate to a web site that requires a login and password.
