From the 2019 reviews of W2 and 1099 Systems.

W-2/1099 Forms Filer is part of Advanced Micro Solutions (AMS) suite of applications.  Designed for both businesses and accounting professionals, W-2/1099 Filer is an on-premise application that can be installed on a desktop or laptop computer. The application can also be installed on workstation computers or used across a network. Each AMS application is sold separately as a stand-alone application, though W-2/1099 will need to be purchased in order to use any other AMS application.

W-2/1099 Forms Filer supports common year-end forms which include W-2, W-2C, W-3, all 1099 forms, 1096, 1098, 5498, and 1042S. The product also supports Puerto Rico forms including PRR-3, PRW-2, PRW-2C, and others.  W-2/1099 Forms Filer supports up to 1,999 separate payers, and up to 99,999 employees per payer, making it a good choice for accounting firms that process a high number of returns for multiple clients each year.

The W-2/1099 Forms Filer form entry interface mirrors the form currently being processed, so data entry is quick and straight-forward. Users can also choose to import data from a variety of third-party applications including QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, form print files, comma delimited text files, tab delimited text files, and columnar report files.  The product will also create an SSN verification file that can verify social security numbers directly with the SSA.

W-2/1099 Forms Filer is designed to print using pre-printed forms, though an add-on module is available that allows users to print forms on blank paper. Firms can also create a PDF of all forms and later email the PDF file to clients, where they can print the forms in-house. E-filing is not automatically included in W-2/1099, though they can purchase E-Filer Services in order to electronically file all year-end compliance forms.

W-2/1099 Forms Filer serves as the core product for all AMS applications, and is required in order to run any of the other applications, which include Software Generated Forms, Advanced Micro Solutions Payroll, E-Filer, and Forms Filer Plus.  The product can also be used as a stand-alone year-end compliance application as well.

All products can be accessed and downloaded directly from the AMS website, with users able to download product updates from the website as well. Customer support is available from the AMS website, with users able to access help and support resources such as the knowledge base and the FAQs. Uses can also access instructions and publications for all supported forms, and the most current year’s software manual is available on the website as well. Telephone support is available during regular business hours, or users can opt to use the Contact Support option on the website for less urgent issues.

W-2/1099 Forms Filer is well suited for businesses and accounting firms that will need to process numerous year-end compliance forms. W-2/1099 Forms Filer’s 2019 version is available for $79, and like most AMS applications is sold as a separate application. If users wish to file forms electronically, they will need to purchase E-File Services, which offers a variety of e-filing and mailing options for forms processed, and charges a fee per form filed, with volume pricing available.

2019 Overall Rating – 4.5 Stars
