From the 2019 reviews of W2 and 1099 Systems.

W2/1099 from Wolters Kluwer, also sold as Payroll Compliance Reporting, is offered only to accounting professionals, and is well suited for smaller firms that currently use other Wolters Kluwer applications such as ATX and TaxWise.  The product is sold in two versions: 1) W2/1099, which includes only federal forms required for compliance; and 2) Payroll Compliance Reporting, which includes everything from the W2/1099 product as well as forms for State and local payroll reporting.

The W2/1099 product processes both W-2s and 1099s, with the form entry screen mirroring the form being processed. Information worksheets are available for W-2s, 1099s, or 1098s for both payers and employers.

The W2/1099 product supports multiple users in the application and will also support a large number of payers and recipients in a single return — a necessity for firms that process year-end Federal compliance forms for multiple clients.

Along with year-end federal compliance forms. W2/1099 also files quarterly federal payroll tax forms such as Form 940, 941, and 944. In addition to filing with the appropriate agencies, W2/1099 also prepares W-2s and 1099s that can be distributed to clients and their employees.

The application easily handles both paper and electronic filing, and firms can also electronically file 1098s, 1099s, and 5498s. All processed forms can be saved as a PDF in the application and later forwarded to clients, so they can print the required forms in-house.  The application can print forms on plain paper or use pre-printed forms as desired.

Despite being a standalone product, W2/1099 does offer users the ability to bring in data from outside sources.. The product offers data import capability from Quickbooks, Sage/Peachtree, as well as from a CSV template created by the user.It also integrates with PaperlessPLUS (another Wolters Kluwer product), allowing users to store all newly created documents electronically for easy future access.  The W2/1099 product is updated by Wolters Kluwer annually, and users can easily roll forward data from previous years to reduce the amount of data entry necessary.

The W2/1099 product offers solid help functionality, with users able to access help from within the application. Form instructions are also available from within the application, and users have access to a variety of training webinars, self-help videos, knowledgebase articles, and a new user orientation. Users can log into the Solution Center to download the product  access an onboarding library, and find other helpful account information. Various training options are also available, and users also have access to U.S. based phone support and chat, which are offered during regular business hours, with extended support hours available during tax season.

Both the W2/1099 and Payroll Compliance Reporting products from Wolters Kluwer are designed for accounting professionals. Both are an excellent fit for firms that process year-end compliance forms for multiple clients.

The 2019 version of W2/1099 is priced at $269, with the full Payroll Compliance Reporting product coming in at $469. Both products can process and  e-file forms W-2 and W-3 with the Social Security Administration, and forms 1099, 1098, and 5498 with the IRS. W2/1099 will also file quarterly returns such as Form 941 and annual Forms 940 and 944 with the IRS using the IRS Modernized e-File System. Both products can also process an unlimited number of payroll returns at $1.50 per TIN. Those interested in either the W2/1099 or the Payroll Compliance Reporting version of the product can contact Wolters Kluwer for additional information.

2019 Rating 4.5 Stars
